How We Calculate Hurricane Shutter Prices

Our estimates are built to be transparent and conservative โ€” a realistic budgeting range, not a sales quote. Here is exactly how we arrive at the numbers you see in the calculator.

Our installed price ranges by shutter type

Every estimate starts from a per-square-foot installed price range for each shutter type, reflecting current 2026 contractor pricing:

Shutter typeInstalled cost (per sq ft)
Storm panels (aluminum, steel, or polycarbonate)$14โ€“$22
Accordion shutters$26โ€“$35
Roll-down shutters$45โ€“$100
Impact windows$40โ€“$100

How the calculator works

  1. You enter each openingโ€™s width and height; we total your protected square footage.
  2. That square footage is multiplied by the installed price range for your chosen shutter type to give a low-to-high estimate covering materials and professional installation.
  3. Motorized roll-down options add a per-opening upcharge.
  4. Coastal counties run roughly 10โ€“20% higher than inland areas, reflecting salt-air hardware and labor demand.
  5. We estimate annual insurance savings (typically 15โ€“30% of the wind premium for a documented, code-compliant install) and a simple payback period.

How we keep prices current

Pricing is refreshed daily through an automated, AI-assisted market-research process and reviewed for accuracy. Each estimate shows when prices were last updated, and figures reflect current 2026 contractor quotes and building-code requirements.

What the estimate does โ€” and doesnโ€™t โ€” include

The range covers typical materials and professional installation. It does not include permit fees (which vary by jurisdiction), structural reinforcement, custom colors or finishes, or difficult access. Treat the result as a planning number, and always collect two to three written quotes from licensed local contractors.
